Hi! thanks for visiting our site! We are a day camp for girls to learn how to play in a band. Our teachers help the students with playing their instrument, writing songs, being a team player and learning leadership!

Pop Rockers is all about pop music. We love all styles of music including hip hop, country, jazz, pop, and spoken word. We even have an electronic violin teacher and a girls drum circle. Our methodology of teaching is based on relationships and cooperative learning. We build our learning environment with friendships and practice.

We focus on "Fun" first! If you're not having fun, then what will you be learning? We help create an atmosphere of trust, openness, and fun. Because the band sizes are smaller than other music camps, the girls get to know each other quicker and form bonds early, creating relationships open for creativity in the band room. We accept all levels of playing. Anywhere from beginner to advanced is ok to register with this camp. We group by age and by level of playing to form our bands. The teacher helps assist the bands in writing songs. They give tools and ideas to each student to help spark new ideas. In past years, the girls are always very proud to present their original music to the audience at the final performance. As friendships are made and fun is created, we believe this is the direct link to long term memory.

Women in Music Minnesota (wimmn) is the non profit that runs this camp. We launched the first girls rock camp in Minnesota in 2007 and have run a rock camp for girls every summer since then.

A letter from parents: I wanted to thank you again so much for all your work on Pop Rockers. She had SUCH a good experience! I've heard all about it in great detail! Abbie made some great friends there, and is looking forward to getting together with them. Thank you SO much for the opportunity you created for the girls. Abbie can't wait to come back for a reunion next year! Jacki

"I want to thank you for the information about “Pop Rockers” and getting us in touch with Rebekka. My daughter had so much fun at camp and her confidence has increased so much. This was an opportunity that will stay with her forever. Without you it wouldn’t be possible. thank you Rachele and Tamera."

Did you know that there was a study taken of students correlating high math scores from school and higher incomes as professionals? Music is an element that can increase math intelligence, which is especially needed for girls. Letting girls elevate their musical skills and expression not only helps them socially, but also puts them in a competative playing field as an adult to earn equal wages.

Directed by a licensed music teacher, the classes will include: instrument lessons, songwriting, how to play in a band, spoken word, images of women in the media, how to DJ, electric violin, essence of a groove, lunch and fun music games. We are a non profit 501 C 3 started in 2004 to help women and girls in music.  You can visit our main website at www.wimmn.com  This camp fulfills all 9 MENC national standards for music education.

The director, Rebekka Fisher, has many years performing regionally, released 5 CD's, has received nomination for keyboardist of the year, received a leadership award from the Mpls Chamber of Commerce, SAI 3 state leadership award, has performed and toured internationally, recorded jingles, and has shared the stage with Prince's New Power Generation band, Johnny Lang, Missing Persons, Funky Town's Cynthia Johnson and Bobbi Schnitzer, and founded the non profit WIMMN.

Part of our staff is Grammy winner Kevin Bowe, Los Angeles writer Jill Holly (www.JillHolly.com), Desdamona (nationally known spoken word artist) and many many more women who are active in the music scene from all over the country.
